EARTH HOMES

Is a site page to help you understand to live sustainably at the lowest possible cost is VERY feasible.  But, it requires work!  If you are good with this then keep reading.

Earth homes is NOT something new.  In fact, they have been around for centuries.  Throughout history people have built homes into the earth, rock, cliffs, out of trees, clay, dirt and twigs.  The possibilities are endless.

Now the harsh reality:

While earth homes are NOT illegal, most city, state and federal inspectors do not recognize them as viable living quarters for a family.  However, there have been people overcome these obstacles.  Check this site out:

There are other ways to live sustainably in earth homes without inspections.  However, there are risks to this type of living here in America.  It's strange that we can build a tree house or playfort or playhouse out of wood, trees, mud or whatever and it's perfectly fine.  But, as soon as you open your mouth and say you are going to live there and move your family there.  Red flags pop up all over an inspectors face.  So, if you want to build one of these earth homes and live there...DON'T OPEN YOUR MOUTH!  Now an earth home is an experimental home, and I am an advocate to not lie to anyone including inspectors.  So, if I were to build an earth home, I would do it as an experiment.  And, if an inspector wanted to know why I was building it that's exactly what I would tell him.  Really it's none of their business, but because of the building codes, rules and regulations they believe they can poke thier nose into YOUR business.  So, you give them what they want, it's experimental self-sustained housing.  You can build an earth home for between $2000.00 to as high as you want to go it all depends upon the type of lifestyle you want to have and the money in your pocket book.  If you have to build an earth home that passes building inspections the cost will be quite a bit higher than if you did not have to pass inspections.  The difference is in your footers, rebar, roof material, wall, plumbing, electrical, stamped and approved drawings, architectual and other types of drawings with your plans (stamped and approved drawings) not just hand written drawings.  The difference is thousands of dollars just in drawings--even for a dirt house!
